Product details

Together with va-Q-tec, we are developing the Thermo Trolley as a new approach to passive temperature control in logistics. Given rising energy costs and increasing sustainability requirements, our focus is on creating solutions to ensure reliable and energy-efficient transport for temperature-sensitive goods in the future. The aim of the project is to enable constant temperature control over several hours by combining Wanzl’s logistics expertise and va-Q-tec's high-performance vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) – without permanent active cooling and with reduced energy requirements. Furthermore, the Thermo Trolley is intended to simplify logistics processes and support customers in significantly saving time and reducing operational effort.

Comparison of Thermo Trolley without batteries vs. conventional container

Test conditions:

  • Constant ambient temperature: +5°C
  • Threshold temperature: -18 °C
  • Product load: 150 kg (330 lbs) of frozen products

Results: Thanks to the vacuum insulation, food temperatures in the Thermo Trolley can be held constant for up to 12 hours without cold packs – whether chilled or frozen.

Comparison of Thermo Trolley with two specialized batteries vs. conventional container with equivalent number of comparable batteries

Test conditions:

  • Constant ambient temperature: +20 °C
  • Threshold temperature: -18 °C
  • Product load: 150 kg (330 lbs) of frozen products

Results: With just two specialized batteries, the temperature retention time of the Thermo Trolley can be extended to up to 24 hours – for both frozen and chilled products. For longer transport times, the retention period can be further increased by utilizing additional specialized thermal batteries.
