Salsa: the new rhythm for retail

Roll-out for the new generation of plastic shopping carts

Wanzl is launching its new generation of plastic shopping carts in September: the Salsa. The roll-out of the model marks a fresh new departure in terms of design, appearance, and smooth motion. A look back into the past confirms the success story of plastic shopping carts from Wanzl, as it was nearly 15 years ago that the Tango model made a big splash by transforming the retail scene. Since that time, the premium cart with a basket volume of 90 to 240 liters (23.8 to 63.4 gallons) has been dancing round the world and making shopping trips more pleasant, comfortable, and colorful.

Shopping basket facelift

So, what’s the Salsa all about? Well, first of all, the model has an impressive appearance, thanks to its striking new design concept. The cart is vibrant-looking, and the structure of its basket is a chaotic web of varied, repeated, interweaving lines that looks as if it has grown organically. It sounds new, looks new, and is perfect for a convenient shopping experience. The 150-liter (39.6-gallon) basket has plenty of space for placing small items and delicate goods safely in the combination child safety seat / goods tray. Large branding areas on the end of the basket and the sides of the shopping cart offer plenty of space to showcase supermarket logos and increase brand recognition. The basket comes in five different colors as standard and is also available in a customized supermarket corporate image variant as an option. The Salsa offers all the benefits familiar from the Tango. For example, its long-lasting, hygienic plastic baskets can withstand acids, lye, and detergents. They are also resistant against the effects of the weather, including high UV radiation, ice, snow, and salty ocean air. The basket without metal reinforcement is EAS and RFID-compatible, which reliably reduces inventory differences.

The Salsa: a quiet dancer

With its original Wanzl caster wheels (including ball bearings), the Salsa dances dynamically, yet also quietly and smoothly, through supermarket aisles and out into the parking lot. The carts can be stacked and unstacked discreetly without making a lot of noise, so they won’t annoy local residents, customers, or supermarket staff.

Optional features

The Salsa will initially be released with a basket volume of 150 liters (39.6 gallons). Additional variants for all customer groups – from singles to families – will then follow. The Salsa is a shopping cart that can be used in any setting – it’s perfect for the daily stroll through the convenience store and also an ideal partner for the big weekly shopping trip in the hypermarket. The cart’s optional bottom tray conveniently increases its loading capacity for PET containers and other bulky items, which helps boost sales. The Salsa also comes with a practical accessory in the form of the Promobox Plus S-Grip handle unit with a cup and scanner holder. In terms of its price, the Salsa plastic shopping cart offers an interesting alternative to metal carts.

The Salsa is the new generation of plastic shopping carts. The chaotic web structure of its basket is refreshingly new. Shopping will therefore be getting even better in the autumn of 2016. The Salsa’s unique appearance helps boost supermarket name recognition.
