1,300 Tangos for Hypernova

At the end of March, Ahold opened a new Hypernova store in the Nové Butovice district in Prague. Initially, the operating company Ahold Central Europe (ACE) put 1,300 Wanzl Tango shopping trolleys into operation here. Juraj Klembara, ACE-Development Manager, reports on the first Tango order.

Why did you decide on Tango?

It was clear to us that the new Hypernova in Prague was operating in a highly competitive environment. The competition in Nové Butovice is fierce and so we explored possibilities for drawing the customer's attention to our new store. And after all, every customer uses a shopping trolley for shopping. So we sought advice from specialists at Wanzl on which type of shopping trolley would be ideal for the new shopping centre. We wanted an extraordinary model that would instantly attract the customer's attention and make shopping particularly convenient at the same time. We believe the Tango model fulfils these criteria.

What are the model’s advantages?

Everyone knows exactly what they don't like when shopping – and what could be improved. For example, different kinds of goods come into contact with each other in the trolley, and these can become damaged as a result of large purchase volumes or if not handled carefully. This aspect was an important criterion for us when choosing the shopping trolley and the features. The plastic loading area in the Tango model is divided into two sections, enabling different kinds of goods, which are not supposed to come into contact with one another, to be transported safely. Moreover, the trolley has a folding crate holder for transporting beverage crates. We appreciate the Tango's versatile features, which can be adapted to the individual requirements of a store.

And why did you decide against a test run?

Everyone in the retail sector knows perfectly well that Wanzl is among the very best in the shopping trolley field. We received the exact trolley specification that we ordered. There was no need to test the quality.

Which features do you value most highly?

I personally would highlight the low noise level. Typical shopping trolleys are much noisier when being pushed, particularly the older models. The Tango is significantly quieter with its plastic basket. The vibrations and noise while in motion are dampened. You can hardly hear the trolley in the store. At the same time, the Tango is easy to manoeuvre. We also placed great value on an appealing and attractive colour combination for the trolley.

Do you use the model in other stores besides this one?

We find the Tango to be the ideal solution for large shopping centres. For this reason, we ordered this model for our next Hypernova store as well, which opened in the Chodov district in Prague in November. We have ordered another 1,300 of them, like we did in Nové Butovice. “

"I like the trolley. It looks good, but it also rolls well and doesn't make any unnecessary noise. It's the best trolley I've ever shopped with.“
