Digital mini-store from Wanzl and tegut… takes the reta Awards 2021 by storm

Wanzl receives award as a technology partner

As in the previous year 2020, Wanzl once again secured the Top Supplier Retail Award 2021 in the Best Customer Experience category, this year as a technology partner of reta prize winner tegut…. The supermarket operator tegut in Hesse was one of the first in Germany to develop a digital mini-store concept... together with retail expert Wanzl. Customers can buy the most important everyday products 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Thanks to smart technology, access and payment are regulated via the tegut... app or solutions for giro and credit cards. The high-tech mini-store "tegut… teo" is based on the mobile store concept, which Wanzl presented for the first time at EuroShop 2020.

This year only digital

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the reta Awards 2021 will be held exclusively digitally this year. The winners of the reta Awards 2021 will once again present their projects and be honoured at an online event on 15 March 2021 to kick off EHI Innovation Days. The event can be followed here via live stream free of charge after prior registration. With the reta Awards the initiators, the scientific institute of the retail industry EHI Retail Institute, award companies every year for implementing outstanding and innovative technology solutions in the retail sector. EHI is collaborating with the German food industry trade magazine, Lebensmittel Zeitung, for the Top Supplier Retail Award. For the first time, the winners will not be able to accept their prizes in person, but will receive them by post. However, this will not put a damper on the proceedings for the delighted winners. Bernd Renzhofer, Sales Director at Wanzl, explains: “We are very proud to have received the Top Supplier Retail Award with our concept of automated micro-stores. As a holistic system provider, Wanzl has laid the foundation for offering autonomous shopping. We look forward to continuing to play a decisive role in the digitalisation of the retail sector with our ideas and in close cooperation with our partners.“

In the eyes of the jury, consisting of representatives from industry, universities and research institutions, Wanzl deserved the accolade with its high-tech mini-store as an outstanding solution with extraordinary, strategic benefits for the retail sector. Ulrich Spaan, member of the EHI management, praises Wanzl: “With 'teo' tegut… has presented a forward-looking strategy for digitalised micro-stores. We congratulate Wanzl for its successful support of this project and the associated award as Top Supplier Retail. Using the store is simple and intuitive and gives customers a unique shopping experience.“

The concept of automated micro-stores

The innovative mini-store "tegut… teo“ relies on autonomous shopping around the clock. Customers can purchase 950 everyday products at any time on a sales floor of 50 sqm and pay for them via app or at self-checkout terminals. Customers can access the mini-store either with a QR code in the tegut…app or their giro or credit card. Customers move around the store as usual. Information for orientation and advice are available in the app and the self-checkout terminals menu, as well as analogue information on the sales floor. The selected goods can be paid for in two ways: Customers simply scan the corresponding barcode on the goods or shelf with the tegut… app on their smartphone and pay directly via the app with the stored payment method. Alternatively, customers can scan the goods at self-checkout terminals and then pay by giro or credit card. The digital mini-stores are particularly suitable for company premises, universities or rural regions.
