The score of 2.05 was significantly ahead of the average score for the industry of 2.32*. An additional award came in the previous year for the 'Best fish counter in the German food retailing industry, Supermarket category'. Furthermore, Tegut was ranked among the top 50 German employers. Tegut's chief executive also received the honour Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 for the high quality of the Tegut range, the sustainable economic framework and the clear service orientation of the company, which was founded by his father Theo Gutberlet 60 years ago.
At the beginning of the 1980s, the Tegut chain became the first among the
classic German food industry retailers to expand its product range to include organic products, which now amount to around 18 per cent of the company's annual turnover. Customers also value the high quality, largely regionally-oriented fresh product range, particularly in the fruit
and vegetables, bread and baked goods, and meat and sausage sectors, which is considered typical of Tegut. This select range is on sale for everyday needs in more than 300 food stores in the Hesse, Thuringia, northern Bavaria and southern Lower Saxony regions, with sales floor spaces ranging from between 500 to 2,500 square metres. Tegut has remained faithful to its philosophy for six decades, which seeks to make a reliable contribution towards improving quality of life with high quality groceries. Its food handling expertise is further developed on an ongoing basis with intensive research into cultivation, production, processing and retail. Tegut prefers direct contact with committed producers in this respect. Furthermore, agricultural associations and several production facilities have been set up.
