Aktiesport with Ceva (NL)

1,600 roll cages from Wanzl in use

As one of the leading Dutch specialist sports stores, Aktiesport offers brand products from Adidas to Reebok. Aktiesport's logistics partner is CEVA. 1,600 Wanzl roll cages are used for order picking and transporting the branded products.

Numerous internationally active businesses as well as medium-sized businesses entrust their logistics processes to CEVA

This is because having a strong partner optimises the logistics process and lowers the costs involved, which form on average 16 percent of the total costs for a business, as shown by the "Logistik-Tacho2010" study. However, many firms, in particular medium-sized businesses, devote a limited amount of attention to logistics processes. Even successful companies only reach between 66 and 74 percent of their logistics performance capability. Numerous internationally active businesses as well as medium-sized businesses entrust their logistics processes to CEVA

Founded in 1982 in Reeuwijk, Netherlands, the specialist sports shop Aktiesport has long since recognised the added value of a functioning logistics chain.

One of the largest sports equipment retailers in Holland, with over 150 branches in top city locations and further shops in neighbouring Germany and Belgium, the company is a customer of CEVA Logistics Benelux.

For Aktiesport, CEVA Logistics is taking over warehousing and the complete commissioning and transport of numerous high-quality sports goods. In order to carry out the order picking and transport to optimal standards, CEVA Logistics decided to make Wanzl its partner for the logistics equipment. In May 2008, Wanzl delivered 1,600 roll cages. The high-quality workmanship of the cages and the associated durability were decisive in CEVA's decision. Additionally, all Wanzl roll cages have theft-proof locking, as CEVA transports high-quality brand-name products from international manufacturers of sports equipment such as Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Puma, Asics, Champion, Le Coq Sportif and Diadora. Also in transport efficiency, the Wanzl containers, which can be nested when empty, scored points when compared to the competition even during the first practical phase: after the goods have been unloaded, the nesting containers only require minimal storage space in the truck for return transport. Specially for the requirements of CEVA and its customer Aktiesport, Wanzl fitted the mobile container with a folding shelf, as well as a special device for order paperwork.

Solutions & services

CEVA employs specialised expert knowledge, global and regional resources and ultra-modern technology specifically for its extensive supply chain range. In this process, leading experts and extensive logistics know-how guarantee first class solutions tailored precisely to customer requirements.

The range of services offered by CEVA can be subdivided into two main areas:

  • Contract logistics – including warehousing and floor-based distribution, both as separate services or combined. Several of CEVA's contract logistics customers also benefit from the SMART methodology: this is where best practice experience and standardised solutions in selected CEVA services are incorporated. With this service, customers can choose between two different billing methods: with the “Open book” option, CEVA forwards the costs on to the customer and charges an administration fee; by contrast, with the “Closed book” system, the price is agreed in advance. Combined solutions and special arrangements on the supply chain are also possible.

  • Freight management – involves coordinating the transportation of goods and materials by air, land or sea. Optimised freight management guarantees that goods will be transported via the most efficient route, whilst simultaneously fulfilling the customer's expectations with respect to cost, speed, reliability and protection of goods. CEVA combines contract logistics with freight management services on demand, in order to provide the customer with a global supply chain from a single source. This tendency towards combined services typifies the current logistics market: thanks to the merger of EGL and TNT, CEVA is in the unique position of being able to fulfil this requirement.
