Feel welcome at Generali

Marble floors, tall white walls, bright light flooding in through the broad glazed façade... No matter which of the three entrances you use at the Generali Deutschland AG head office in Munich, you will be welcomed in style. Around 1,800 employees pass through the foyer every day, not to mention numerous guests, delivery workers and external employees. They all want to reach their destination in comfort. They all want to feel welcome. They all want to feel safe. A complex task for the Technical Building Manager at Generali Deutschland AG in Munich: “Building access is a critical issue. Of course, security concerns are the top priority, but this should not impact the everyday lives of our employees and guests.” That is why Generali opted for cutting-edge access systems from Wanzl Access Solutions.

The system in place within the building is both stylish and modern. Safety glass partitions flank virtually invisible turnstiles, special access points with double doors and access lanes. The materials and design tie in harmoniously with the elegant atmosphere in the reception area. These state-of-the-art products are fully automated and reliable in fulfilling their actual purpose: to offer convenient access to the building to authorised persons only. To this end, every employee is issued with their own RFID employee card. Armed with this personal access authorisation, employees head for the Transtec turnstile, where a connected RFID reader is located in the LED dome of a futuristic stainless steel column. The cards are scanned, networked software verifies the information associated with them at lightning speed, and the system authorises access. The ESG arms move automatically, allowing cardholders to pass through. Guests are issued with temporary personalised passes at the reception desk. Security staff open the turnstile to allow them to access the reception area and collect their passes. Despite the highly technical nature of the process, it can be centrally controlled with ease. Thanks to the Wanzl WEB control panel, the system is simple to operate using a smartphone or tablet. The Galaxyport special access point is available for larger groups, deliveries and people carrying bulky objects such as luggage. This helps to ensure that all authorised persons have unimpeded entry. “Automatic identification of people increases building security significantly. It allows us to detect and authenticate all employees and all external visitors such as customers, workmen or delivery workers, in a targeted manner,” says the modern building management expert. The security philosophy behind the system is: high security through high technology. This is reflected in the sophisticated sensors and intelligent software systems which ensure seamless operation. One thing is especially important to the building manager at this location: “We did not need to replace the existing security systems. The Wanzl Facility Management Control Unit (FMCU) was simply integrated into our existing infrastructure, such as the central fire alarm system and the Siport access card system.”

Employees and visitors pass through the Galaxy Gate, an elegant entry and exit lane, to leave the building. Green or red LEDs in the handrail clearly indicate the direction of passage. This can be set up at all three access points. Having three access points also means managing three different architectural situations. “We found the flexible, customisable dimensions and access widths of the different products highly beneficial. The on-site installation went exactly as we had hoped it would, as indeed did our whole collaboration with Wanzl, in terms of advice, planning and implementation,” the building manager adds, describing important criteria in selecting Wanzl as a partner.
