Wanzl expands and refits Julius Meinl

Food culture in the finest ambience

At the best location in Prague, Wenceslas Square, Julius Meinl opened a shop in a class of its own: a 2,600 m2 delicatessen on three floors of an art nouveau listed building, which the Viennese experts at Wanzl have redeveloped and refitted.

The building had previously been used as a bank. This meant that all the supply lines had to be relaid and all the shopfittings, from the furniture and counters to the lighting, had to be redesigned, provided to the customer as samples, and assembled. As the building with its original art nouveau lamps, its period mouldings, ornaments and ceilings, as well as its completely preserved marble floor has listed status, the authorities also had a say in its redevelopment. A drinks bar framed with onyx stone, discreetly integrated counters and the exclusive use of wooden furniture and cabinets are all components of the high-quality concept of Julius Meinl that were in evidence during the construction phase and resulted in an ensemble that offers a unique shopping experience.

As soon as they enter the shop, customers are greeted by curved cabinets backlit with dual-colour LEDs, displaying exceptional products. The centrepiece of the store is the two-level atrium spanned by semi-transparent glass bridges. Arranged around this central area are the different product sections. These include, for example, the stylish wine section, the exclusive patisserie, the cheese, fish and meat counters created for connoisseurs and, last but not least, the confectionery and coffee section where Meinl places the main emphasis on its own-brand products. The range of dry products also meets the needs of even the most discerning of customers and is presented on elegant wooden shelving units manufactured by Wanzl exclusively for Julius Meinl. The store is completed by a bar and the à la carte restaurant with its exclusive benches for sitting and leaning on, which, like all the furnishings, have been designed, supplied and installed by Wanzl.
