Fascinating design at Edeka Werner

The new EDEKA Werner cross-generational store in the town of Lichtenfels in Upper Franconia is a vision of perfectly created reality. The concept for your store was implemented by the family that owns the company – Marina, Bernhard and Christian Werner – with close co-operation from Coburg University and Wanzl, the general contractor.

Under the aegis of renowned interior designer Prof. Rudolf Schricker, the wishes of the customers for a cross-generational store were analysed and reinterpreted from an architectural perspective. At the heart of the concept is the "meeting point of the generations". This relaxation, play and information zone is truly captivating. In addition to the screens and touchscreens at different heights, it is also a unique visual experience. Logs of real birch hold up the shop furniture and stretch up into a forest of leaves on the shop ceiling that extends through the store – leading from one area to another.

And at EDEKA Werner this does not just apply to the enticing, elegantly styled wine department and the fruit and vegetable area with its impressive natural look. EDEKA Werner also emphasises the high quality of its range in the coffee area and delicatessen area that it has set up itself, using an impressive architectural interpretation.

As is so often the case, it is the attention to detail here that makes the concept a success: stylised coffee beans adorn the coffee shelf; real moss grows out of the back panel of the Wanzl fruit & vegetables display unit; harmonious lighting and extra-wide aisles slow down shoppers. Added to this is the striking organisation of the store: impulse-purchase items are presented on wire tech and wire tech 100 shelves from Wanzl in the right location; wall graphics and signs signal the route through the store in a calming way. High-value materials, such as the wooden panelling on the large end display units for example, reinforce the quality claims of the business.

A further special feature of the newly set-up store in Lichtenfels: at the rear of the cross-generation meeting point there is a shop kitchen – perfect for enabling customers to find out about how best to prepare the delicious fresh foods on offer in store. This is a detail that one would be more likely to expect from a city store. However, with its existing stores in Upper Franconia, EDEKA Werner has already shown that customers everywhere, and not just those in the cities, value high-quality presentation of a fresh and well-selected food range.
