Wanzl showcases the future of shopping at EuroShop 2023

How the retail specialist gained from the leading trade fair

How can we inspire and retain customers based on the situation? How can we counteract the staff shortage? How can we implement new shop formats as quickly as possible and establish them economically? Wanzl provided answers to these and many other pressing questions from retailers at EuroShop 2023. Over five days, the retail specialist welcomed partners and interested visitors to its trade fair stand in Düsseldorf. "Despite strikes on local public transport and at the airports in the region, we achieved what we set out to do. Customers from all over the world were able to see for themselves that Wanzl has the right solution for them individually to meet current challenges and confront the future of shopping: whether AI-supported as with Smart Trolleys and Bakisto, smart 24/7 formats or an emotional in-store design for an authentic shopping experience," summarises Bernd Renzhofer, Sales Director at Wanzl.

Find your way – digitalisation, automation and emotionalisation

In the labyrinth of possibilities, Wanzl guided its partners to the right path to the future. Many retailers are still looking for solutions to their individual challenges. "We are always close to the customer! This is one of our central mottos at Wanzl. It is therefore very important for us to sit down with our partners, understand their needs and then map out a path to success. As a complete solution provider, we support them along the entire value chain as a consultant, planner, developer, supplier, fitter, coordinator and organiser, right through to after sales. EuroShop offers an ideal setting to present our wide range of ideas and services and to establish contact with customers," explains Bernd Renzhofer.

Wanzl focuses on economically scalable solutions for practical implementation and the perfect shopping experience. These include pioneering technologies such as the Smart Trolley with a display including camera and AI function, shelving systems with inventory monitoring as well as a solution to allocate goods to the respective customer or the combination of a self-check-out solution and gate in a system for 24/7 small-space concepts.

Bernd Renzhofer explains: "The digitalisation of physical stores continues to progress. In addition to our smart products and formats, we also offer the right management tool for the processes in the background with the cloud-based software platform wanzl connect®. In addition, an increasing number of processes in retail are being automated. The best example of this is our Bakisto system, which we developed together with the baking oven manufacturer Wiesheu and the industrial robot producers Fanuc. The in-store baking process is automated from loading and baking to presentation and AI and demand-oriented management. In this way, we relieve the strain on staff, reduce markdowns, prevent out-of-stock situations and increase the quality of baked goods."

In addition to the technological highlights, Wanzl also impressed with its design ideas. Whether pretty in pink and casually cool as a homage to the American Miami lifestyle or a hip Art Deco style in black and gold for a touch of luxury with a jazz soundtrack and light cedar wood scent. "We can now discuss emotional shopfitting design, IoT solutions or cloud architecture with the customer just as well as shopping trolleys and shelves," says Bernd Renzhofer: "The decision to go to the trade fair was absolutely right. Many of our assumptions about what motivates our customers and consumers have been confirmed. Solutions for staff shortages, shoppertainment and easy shopping are in demand. We had very good discussions in which we laid the foundation for promising projects. We now need to build on this."
