Trolley tracking

For optimised fleet management

  • Makes trolley supply planning easier
  • Reduces inefficient search times for luggage trolleys
  • Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use

Every luggage trolley is equipped with an RFID tag, while every depot or collection point has an RFID reader to record data. The airport operator has an overview of the current location of their luggage trolleys at all times. This allows depots to be defined in a more customer-friendly manner, given plenty of space and filled on time. This not only reflects positively on the airport’s general image, but also increases passenger satisfaction, as they can always find a luggage trolley when they need one.

Tracking…

1. Trolleys in zones

The airport site is divided into individual zones. In almost real time, the system logs the amount and location of luggage trolleys on the site.

2. Trolley depots

Using an RFID reader (gateway), every collection point reports the current number of available luggage trolleys to the system.

3. Entries and exits

The system measures and evaluates the flow of trolleys between the individual zones. In almost real time, the system logs the points at which a trolley moves from one zone to the next.

Benefits of trolley tracking

1. Reduces inefficient search times for trolleys. This permits optimised
staff allocation, which in turn results in reduced operating costs.

2. Improved trolley availability increases customer satisfaction.

3. Monitoring trolley buffer areas allows spikes in traffic to be better
    managed.

4. Possibility to locate trolleys in remote areas and in the vicinity of the airport:
airport operators know where their luggage trolleys are at all times.

5. Airport operators know the total number of trolleys needed for daily operations.

6. Monitoring of service level agreements with third-party providers.

7. Evaluation of trolley dwell time.

8. Possibility to visualise routes taken outside and inside the buildings.
These routes can be used to determine which areas are visited more
frequently. This information can be used to optimise
   revenue flows.

General information about the system:

· The system works indoors and outdoors

· Wiring/infrastructure requirements are minimal

· Information is provided in almost real time

· The system can be retrofitted into existing infrastructures

· The batteries we use have a long service life, which reduces
  maintenance work

· The RFID tag is protected by a waterproof housing (IP65)

The tracking dashboard

The dashboard shows the customer-specific layout of the airport site.

Basic information:
· Number and definition of trolleys currently in use or out of use
· Battery status of the tags
· Level of trolley availability in the collection points
· Position of the trolleys in each zone
· All parameters can be assigned threshold values

In addition, the historical trolley data collected is evaluated. Since the same flights arrive every week, the system is able to learn from the historical data how many trolleys are required on average for every arriving or departing airplane and defines the necessary amount of trolleys required for each collection point.

Optional software features:

· Display of upcoming trolley maintenance
· Alarm signal management
· Theft protection
· Work instructions, also in the form of push notifications to mobile
devices (refill luggage trolley collection points,
  maintenance instructions, etc.)
· Interfaces to various airport systems
