Kodin Terra DIY pilot project

The Finns are among the most industrious DIY enthusiasts in Europe, and the Finnish trade cooperation Hämeenmaa, which belongs to the S Group, the retailing cooperative, has responded to this trend.

In Lahti, 100 kilometres north of Helsinki, the first Kodin Terra DIY store was opened as a pilot project in April. Over 30,000 products from the building, renovation, home textiles and garden sectors are on offer, covering a sales floor space of 10,000 square metres. The product range is aimed at both end users and professional users. In addition, Kodin Terra values service: by that token, there are the newest living quarter trends, as well as the latest on building materials or targeted support with garden planning and bathroom design.

For its DIY pilot project, the S Group preferred to collaborate with a manageable number of partners able to provide as many services as possible from a single source and with experience in the DIY sector.

Expedit delivered various shop solution components as well as 135 Wanzl Tango shopping trolleys, 70 Multi-Cart 200 transport trolleys and 12 SP 5 special transport trolleys for transporting boards and bulky items. Plans are in place to set up additional DIY stores in ten locations all over Finland, favouring larger cities and rapidly developing regions. Tarmo Toivonen, Development Manager of S Group, comments on this: "The final decision will be made at the end of the year, when the pilot phase in Lahti comes to an end. The business is currently developing in a positive way.“

"The Tango creates an atmosphere of well-being for women in the otherwise dry and technical surroundings of a large DIY store. And we all know who ultimately decides what changes are to be made in our own homes.“

Wanzl and Expedit a/s

WANZL SUPPORTS THE RETAIL SECTOR IN SCANDINAVIA IN CLOSE COOPERATION WITH ITS PARTNER COMPANY EXPEDIT A/S. Expedit's company headquarters are located in Denmark. Branches in Finland, Norway and Sweden ensure close proximity to customers in every Scandinavian country. Expedit has developed into one of the largest shop solutions suppliers in Scandinavia, and is the expert for individual shop solutions. But shopping trolleys and shopping baskets, electrical entrance systems, checkout barriers and customer guidance systems are also included in their product range.

-30° Celsius

WITH WINTER TEMPERATURES AS LOW AS -30° CELSIUS, THE FINNISH CLIMATE EVEN PUTS SHOPPING TROLLEYS TO THE TEST. But the Tango plastic shopping trolley from Wanzl has been proving its weather resistance since the beginning of 2003, when Expedit supplied the model in Finland for the first time. Since then the K-supermarket and S-market stores in the Isomyyri shopping centre, situated in Vantaa, have been using 345 blue Tango shopping trolleys, which are very well-received by the customers. S-market operators and co-op members HOK-Elanto have meanwhile put an additional 620 Tango shopping trolleys into operation in their Nurmijärvi, Korso, Kotipokki and Ahtiala stores.
