Gastwerk Hotel Hamburg (D)

From a gasworks to a Gastwerk hotel

For around 120 years, the old gas works worked to bring light to the streets and houses of western Hamburg. Nowadays, however, the impressive and painstakingly restored brick and steel industrial monument fuses modern design and historical architecture to create a fascinating and harmonious setting – the Gastwerk, Hamburg's very first Design Hotel. Measuring 600 square metres, the building's brick hall is flooded with natural light and lends the hotel its unique loft character. Since it was opened in 2000, it has become one of the top hotel destinations in the city.

Charismatic design and a stylish atmosphere give the interior of the Gastwerk hotel its unmistakeable character. Self-determination and individuality are the design credo running through all hotels in the international Design Hotels™ group, of which the Gastwerk Hotel Hamburg is a member. Inspired by hotel visionary and Gastwerk Managing Director Kai Hollmann, the Gastwerk hotel represents a fascinating symbiosis of the charming rawness of an industrial building and the elegance of contemporary design. As a result, any guest staying here experiences a hotel with a truly exclusive character. The Gastwerk hotel offers 141 rooms, lofts and suites in six different categories.

Room service from Wanzl

To provide the perfect room service, in May 2013 Wanzl supplied eleven nimble Premium ZP Classic chambermaid trolleys with four levels, two of which are adjustable. Featuring a 5th castor and able to turn on the spot, the chambermaid trolleys transport clean laundry and guest supplies directly to the rooms and suites. A 120-litre plastic bag supports the hotel's environmental work as it allows recyclable material and rubbish to be sorted hidden from view.

Another highlight is the Connect holder, which makes it easy to connect handcarts for transporting dirty laundry. The practical solution allows handcarts to be connected and released in a single action, meaning laundry is taken efficiently to the collection point. The handcart can then be folded to save space. The Gastwerk hotel was impressed by the design, functionality, sustainability, comprehensive accessories, service and long-term availability of spare parts. What's more, the compact, slim chambermaid trolleys from Wanzl save space as they fit into the staff lift. Wanzl also supplied three Premium ZP Fresh chambermaid trolleys for the exclusive evening housekeeping checks and the turn-down service.

The trolleys are easy to handle, have ample capacity and easily transport the clean laundry for 14 rooms. Steering and manoeuvring poses no problems at all, even for our more petite employees. All these factors simplify our day-to-day work and are highly appreciated by our housekeeping staff.
