Freshly baked in Zuckerpassage

7 a.m. in Zuckerpassage, Lehrte, at EDEKA Cramer

There's a delicious aroma in the air! 24 types of bread and 18 different bread rolls, all with a crispy crust and soft crumb, just waiting to make their way into customers' shopping bags. The choice is tremendous, the bread is baked day after day using traditional baking methods – from wholemeal bread and baguettes to spelt rolls, paninis and raisin bread. Mondays to Saturdays, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., customers can look forward to bread, rolls and everything in between. This has everything a bakery needs, inside and out! This was reason enough for EDEKA Cramer to opt for the BakeOff 2.0 at its incredibly busy shop in Lehrte. "We have completely modernised our in-store bakery with its wide array of culinary offerings. It was clear that our previous pre-baking station needed an update in terms of design and functionality," says Inga Ali, Managing Director of EDEKA Cramer. BakeOff 2.0 was a hit in the design and test phase. "Hold a bag, tongs and flap, and then get the product – in a pre-baking station, the customer has to do all of this with just two hands. This is awkward. We wanted a more user-friendly, yet hygienically impeccable system without flaps. Our choice was the BakeOff 2.0," reports Inga Ali.

Mouth-watering baked goods on show in the BakeOff 2.0 fresh-goods display unit from Wanzl

Here everything is all-in-one!

The BakeOff 2.0 was a hit in the design and test phase. "Hold a bag, tongs and flap, and then get the product – in a pre-baking station, the customer has to do all of this with just two hands. This is awkward. We wanted a more user-friendly, yet hygienically impeccable system without flaps. Our choice was the BakeOff 2.0,” reports Inga Ali.

Wanzl designed the attractive, modular fresh-goods display unit which is 12 metres long. Eight one-metre-wide baked-goods towers featuring four levels and energy-saving LED lighting offer bread, rolls and snacks. In the integrated refrigerated shelves for cross-selling, customers can find fresh products to go, such as wraps, sandwiches and salads, "which are very popular." Specially tailored to the requirements of EDEKA Cramer, Wanzl incorporated a three-metres-long four-level wire tech shelving system into the fresh goods display unit.

Packaged products are sold here. If customers want sliced bread, a self-service bread-slicing machine completes the fresh-goods display unit. The BakeOff 2.0 is stocked from behind; as there is no rear panel, the unobstructed view lets customers see into the lively area where the goods are baked. From here, the in-store bakery and fresh-goods display unit are supplied with baked items – always of a consistently high quality and, of course, fresh every day. For EDEKA Cramer, daily bread is a strong footfall generator, and a perfect product for sharpening its image for excellence in fresh goods.
